After the recent launch of Puma x XO, a collaboration with the global superstar The Weeknd, Puma is now joining forces with British designer Sophia Webster to produce a line of apparel and footwear.
Having seen the videos of Sophia Webster at her weekly dance classes on Instagram, the German footwear brand approached the designer and this is how the collaboration was born. Alongside her success within design Sophia Webster has a dancing background, so it makes this collaboration even more authentic as she has been able to input her self knowledge into creating beautiful, yet practical pieces that are perfect for sporting activities.
The influence from her dancing background is clear throughout the collection, with her use of vibrant colours and graphic placements that inject her distinctive design style into this collaborative effort.
This is the first time that Sophia Webster has applied her designer eye to apparel, working only on footwear and accessories previously, so it is interesting to see how her recognisable design aesthetic is translated into apparel.
The womenswear line comes in two contrast colour drops. The first half features a tropical “Birds of Paradise” print made with sheer black performance fabric blending in textured flock hand-drawn patterns. Meanwhile, the second drop is all about bold graphics and sports mesh details softened by pastel hues.
The latest Pearl sneaker includes the exclusive Sophia Webster’s rubber cage design with colourways through a kaleidoscope cleverly. The Puma Suede is elevated with translucent rubber soles, while the classic Puma style the Leadcat is emphasised with a touch of metallic embroidered artwork.
The collection will be released on September 5th online and available worldwide at Puma stores and selected retailers from the 9th. The pieces in the collection range from £30 to £230.
