With 540 collections on show this edition, Playtime Paris continues to dominate the kidswear trade show collective. Providing an eclectic mix of traditional and innovative styles, visitors were treated to a diverse selection of brands which showcased the very best of the independent market. Locally manufactured clothing and recycled materials were hot topics at the show, fuelling the sustainability discussion further as designers continue to look for more ethically friendly production methods.

A Heritage Party

Classic heritage influences are injected into winter party pieces, redefining formal shapes with a touch of the outdoors. Lurex pin stripes and tapered leg trousers twist the heritage theme on its head, creating exciting new directions for smart casual aesthetics. Plaid and check patterns made a huge impact at Playtime this season, executed in updated fashion tones for a contemporary feel.
Raw Cut Jersey

Touching upon the growing interest for streetwear in the older markets, jersey is making a major comeback in kidswear apparel with a distinctive, raw cut finish. Oversized silhouettes are key in the creation of this ultra-casual aesthetic, teamed with a softened neutral palette for a look of normcore cool. Minimalist graphics elevate the staple fabric when combined with these unfinished hemlines.
Golden Mustard

Mustard is updated for the Fall 2018 season with a golden energy. Yellow hues become more saturated to enhance the brightness, bringing a fresh aesthetic when applied to heavy fabrics such as wool and double weight jerseys. This tone complements deep shades of royal blue for a varsity inspired look.
Scrawled Embroideries

Embroidery techniques are translated onto apparel items with a naïve, handwritten aesthetic. This offbeat take on typography is reminiscent of notebook scrawls, enhancing casual shapes with a laidback attitude. Chunky stitching adds a handcrafted quality to garments when combined with disjointed lettering.
